What Happens During A Gingival Sculpting Procedure?
The gum contouring process removes and reshapes gum tissue which has fallen over the teeth. The procedure doesn’t leave a deficit and only exposes the tooth tissue that would already be visible if not for the presence of excess gum tissue. A gingival sculpting procedure only takes about an hour. A local anesthetic is applied before a laser is used to cut away the gum tissue; as described above. There is only minor discomfort and no bleeding or stitches involved.
How to Care For My Oral Health After Gingival Sculpting?
It is not uncommon to experience mild swelling or discomfort following a gingival sculpting procedure. The specific type of procedure undertaken will affect your recovery time and the level of post-treatment discomfort you feel. Your dentist may recommend you follow a strict diet of soft foods and liquids for a few days following the procedure. To relieve pain and prevent infection, your dentist may recommend you take medication during this time.
